Kahala Homes & Real Estate

Kahala real estate breaks into a few distinct tiers, and the difference between them often comes down to a few hundred yards. Kahala Avenue itself — the oceanfront row of estates between Kahala Beach and Waialae Country Club — is where you'll find Oahu's largest and most private residences, many on lots of a half-acre or more with direct beach access. These oceanfront estates generally trade from around $5 million up past $15 million, with the largest compounds selling well beyond that.

Move a block or two inland, toward the canal system or the streets bordering Waialae Country Club, and you'll find beautifully finished homes without the direct oceanfront premium, generally in the $3 million to $6 million range. Further up into the interior streets of the 96816 zip code, updated single-family homes trade between about $1.5 million and $3 million — still Kahala, still walkable to Kahala Mall, but priced closer to what you'd find in nearby Aina Haina or Waialae Iki.

Kahala Avenue: Oceanfront Living

Kahala Avenue is genuinely unlike anywhere else on Oahu. The estates here are residential, not resort-style — large lots, mature landscaping, and real privacy, rather than the high-rise condo towers you see in Waikiki or Kakaako. A meaningful share of Kahala Avenue's highest-value transactions happen off-market, which is part of why working with an agent who's actively tracking this street matters more here than almost anywhere else on the island.

Interior Kahala

The interior streets of Kahala — away from the water, closer to Waialae Country Club and Kahala Mall — offer a gentler entry point into the neighborhood. Many of these homes date to the 1950s and 60s and have been extensively renovated, similar to what you'll see happening throughout Aina Haina a bit further east, just at a higher price point given the Kahala address.

Amenities in Kahala

Kahala Mall anchors everyday life in the neighborhood, with a movie theater, Longs, Whole Foods, and a full mix of restaurants and shops. The Kahala Hotel & Resort is the neighborhood's other landmark, home to Hoku's fine dining and the Plumeria Beach House, plus the hotel's well-known dolphin lagoon. Waialae Country Club, host of the PGA Tour's Sony Open, sits at the heart of the neighborhood and is a major part of Kahala's social life for members.

Kahala Beach itself is calmer and far less crowded than Waikiki, used mostly by residents rather than visitors. Diamond Head State Monument is about a mile away, an easy trip for the popular crater hike. On the school side, Kahala Elementary serves the neighborhood's public-school families, and both Punahou and Iolani are within a 10–15 minute drive for private school families.
